hello everyone,
instead of doing this over 4 separate chat sessions let's discuss it here.
it will stop some ppl bugging me about not blogging and it will get this done.
so far the vote for this yr's charity is the food bank since they're having trouble.
we can do what we usually do and ppl can donate food or money?
pi and i can do the grocery shopping shortly after and use any money raised to buy stuff for the food bank.
thoughts?

so i came home early to surprise pi. he said he couldn't come online as soon as he got home 'cause he had a lot of housework to do before i came home on fri night....figured i'd do some of it for him before he got home. so i got home, did the dishes, washed the counter and the stove, folded the laundry and remade the bed. pi finishes work at 4, i got home at about 3.30. figured i wouldn't have long to wait until he got home. wrong, he was being sneaky too. by the time he was an hr late i was getting worried. so i emailed him and asked him if he were finished the house work yet 'cause i wanted to talk to him...didn't want to blow the surprise. he wrote back eventually saying that no, he hadn't finished yet. = more worried.
so i went up to the corner to see if i could get mom to call him just to make sure that he wasn't doing something silly like driving to london while i was in toronto to surprise me (he's done that before. it was great :) i'd had a miserable week and having him appear unexpectedly made it all better). no one was home to call him so i tried...no answer.
i was talking to the neighbours upstairs when he pulled into the drive way. luckily our downstairs laundry door was open so i snuck through their house and into ours w.o pi noticing and upstairs man said he'd keep him busy for a while so i could take my coat off.
rotfl - priceless expression when he waslked in the door and i was standing there.....completely stunned for a sec :D
so, he was being sneaky and devious too....at least he wasn't going to london. that would have been bad. he was xmas shopping.
while he was out he also bought a box of 100 dvd cases *sigh*
at least if i have anything to complain about in this relationship it will be silly things like that.
who needs 100 dvd cases and where are we going to put them?!!
oh, and my big fat greek wedding was $7 at loblaws so we got that too :)

nothing much to say really.
pi was here this weekend but i'm sure that's no surprise to anyone reading this, esp pi.
he took me out for vietnamese for lunch yesterday and we were both supremely unadventurous and had fried rice, but it was good and i loved it.
we went to city lights too, which is a REALLY good used book store.
got 7 boooks...kind of my accident :S
not my fault this time. they have a really good sci-fi section.
since there really isn't much more to say i'm going to take a poll....best candle smell?
i like strawberry

speaking of colds....i was fine on sun, but i woke up yesterday w. a soar throat and by the time i got back from 2 hrs of class i felt really awful. so i went to bed to do my readings and skipped my oe class. which turned out to be a good thing 'cause i just felt worse as the evening progressed. nothing like taking advil to get rid of an headache when you haven't been able to eat much. made me a bit woozy.
feel a bit better today, just like i'm a swolen lump of something. i'll probably take an hot bath and hope i feel better later so i can go to my class tonight.
probably, since i'm feeling hungry again.

weekend started really well! pi arrived about 5 hours earlier than i was expecting him :D got some time off work and surprised me! yay! /me cuddles pi
well, i now have at least a working computer.
lost a ton of files though :( most of my music.
aparently future shop needs to take murgatroid for about 2 weeks if they're going to give me a new harddrive on warranty...so that will be done over xmas.
THANK YOU pi *snuggle* for giving me a working computer again w/ most of my files.
also got my coat back this weekend.
went for some driving lessons, learned 3 pt turns.
went to the huds production fri night. funny and, as they said, in places offensive....the immitation of dr read by asher was HILLARIOUS and dead on. i'm not sure how funny he found it, but it was REALLY good!
i didn't really need to see dr conter in only a towel though....better than the speedo from last year i guess :S

well, the mozart requiem went really well last night. they had to turn ppl away at the door because they simply couldn't put any more in the cathedral. it was packed and extrenely hot. the gowns are really going to have to be dry cleaned before the next show.
the usual really long standing ovation and bringing out of the soloists (who were incredible, esp the bass) over and over while the choir's knees gave out.
our cds came out and i got a copy. a couple of the pieces we worked really hard on aren't on the cd, but it's a pretty good disk overall.
other than the fact that the concert went well the rest of the evening was in agreement with the rest of the week. i left my winter coat there as well as my mitts 'cause we were all so hot afterwards and it was such a nice night that it seemed natural not to have it. i went to the church to try and get it today but one of the choir moms took it home. no one knows whicih, so i'm frantically emailing around to ask...since i don't have a numbers list.
also, we had to wear poppies last night. not exactly being a fan of pins i usually have a small canada flag pin w/ a back so i'm not nervous about it all the time. since i left it in toronto this yr i just donated and wasn't wearing a poppy. i couldn't be the only one in the choir w/o one, esp in the front row, so the choir moms chased me down and decided to pin one on me. they were rather insistant and weren't listening very well and by the time they'd managed to back me into a wall and pin the stupid thing to me i had burst into tears...which was more than slightly embarrasing.
i'm going back to re-researching my papers now since my files aren't accessable.

snowing a little. not as early as last yr, which is nice, since last yr it was oct 1.
i had a good rant about that.
got my paper back from read today
88 :)
mozart requiem wed night
last night's reh was weird. the union was pissed off 'cause they just changed management and no one told them we were going to be rehersing in the hall. they weren't very friendly and everyone was testy.
too much work
want to go into hibernation for the next couple of months. i'll come out for xmas, new yrs, my bd, and pi's bd
otherwise i'll see you all in may

went to sarah's last night for some girls time and to relax after a relatively stressful week. we watched invader zim, which is really cute and quite funny, talked, and googled pickle images and cat loaf which turned up some interesting stuff....then sarah got sick and upset and threw up....other than that it was a great evening and we got back at 2.

we went to the wit's end to see the caution donkeys (a scottish band) last night and relax. it was great. they used to do this thing where they raised their drinks and said 'comradship' and everyone yelled it back and drank. but they found that the word was getting boring so they now asked the audience for a new word every night. manda yelled out 'probaton' and the guitarist said 'what did she say?' so a couple of us yelled back 'PROBATON'. and he's like, 'what's that?!' and manda, ann, and chris yelled back 'greek for sheep' at which pt they said 'no more drinks for that table' and raised their glasses and the whole bar yelled 'PROBATON' and it was just WAY too funny.
they were really good and we had a great time.

on fri morning pi had an itchy eye, but it didn't bother him too much w/ the contact in. when he got here that night he couldn't sleep w/o the contact in 'cause it felt like he had an eyelash attached to the inside of his eyelid.
this morning, since his eye was red and puffy and he obviously shouldn't keep the contact in i made him go to the dr. we went to a walk in clinic and the dr told us he had an infection b/c of the contact and we had to throw out the contact, the solution, all the cases, everything. he also has to be really careful about contacts from now on 'cause if he gets it infected again there can be complications.
so the dr perscibed drops. every 15 min for the first 3 hrs, which was fun. then every hour on the hour for the next 3 days (we're getting really good at putting them in and going on w/ what we were doing), then every 4 hrs for at least 2 weeks.
at this point, he had just one contact that he shouldn't have been wearing anyway and his glasses are in toronto. so we went to just about every optomotrist in london trying to get a pair of glasses so he could drive home....not too many places carry a -6 lense....when we did find a place that had them, but they wouldn't give him the lenses w/o a perscription. the optomotrist wasn't in and was booked into the middle of nov anyway 'cause eye exams aren't covered by ohip as of nov 1 (neither are chiropracters *sigh*). we then spent a fair amount of time looking for an optomotrist that was in and not booked solid on a sat afternoon.
we ended up doing an internet search for his usual eye dr in toronto, called them, and had them fax his perscription to the place that had a -6.5 and -6.75 lense in stock.....so now pi has new glasses and he can't wear contacts for at least a month, probably 2.
i like them :) they're a lot nicer than his other pair

carmina's done
it's been a while since i've had an audience literally jump to their feet.
it was incredible!!!
sold out show
7 curtin calls
something extremely exciting about singing w/ 400 voices, a full orchestra, 2 pianos, a celest, and a percussian section that requires 5 ppl to keep it going :D
the soloists were AMAZING!!!!
esp the sop. she's 8 months pregnant!
anyone w/ a recording listen to the 21st track....there's no way i could do that! i don't have the breath control/the notes, nevermind the fact that she's 8 months pregnant.
for those of you who know terry, she struggles w/ this piece!!!
anyway, i'm on quite the adrenaline high, but i'm trying to calm down, so i'm going to go play a game and go to bed now

well, this weekend was interesting....congrats to the scoring committee for getting rid of the watch dog. glad you got all that out of your system pi :)
didn't get back in time for the rehersal, hopefully i'll make it tonight so i can still do the show :S
maybe i should just take a cab from class to the hall.
writing an essay when my day finally ends some time near 11. that should be fun.
other than that, there really isn't much going on.
thanksgiving this weekend! classes canceled right left and centre that week, much less stressful :)
LOTS of family stuff to do this weekend. hopefully go out for 'lunch' w/ tanya and have desert w/ the osccsc.....sunday night good for ppl or is that when you're doing 'the dinner'?
tk wants to go to dutch dream/something like that 'cause it's closing down and they have apple pie flavoured ice cream. if not, what time is good for you (keeping in mind that i have too many families at the moment and very little in the way of a life)

plans for this weekend
starting tonight, make a frantic dash from rehersal to the bus station to arrive in toronto at about 11.30 (hopefully)
spend all of sat doing an essay, sitting at home half glad, half annoyed that i'm not at the oscc meeting.
home after a long day sunday.
someone want to switch? it's a really fun historeographical paper on british abolition!

well, the bell man came and fixed our phone.
aparently my answering machine blew up something in the jack.
so we don't have an answering machine anymore.
on a similar note, liane's gone to argue with zellers about our toaster. we bought it in may and it's stopped working...1 month w/i the warenty still! so hopefully when i get home from the party tonight i will be coming home to a new toaster.

i hate bell!
they are stupid and useless!
i got back to london this weekend to find that the phone had stopped working as had the internet. they're aparently not related since the internet stopped working on saturday and the phone on friday and the net's back up now, but that, too, is just stupid. the phone sounds like there's a phone off the hook somewhere in the house. we've checked every jack and phone and there's isn't a phone off the hook. if you try to call me you'll currently get a busy signal. as this is only the continuing saga of the bell screw up i don't expect to recieve a bill for this month's services on phone OR internet! *grrrrrrrrrrrrr*
in other news, this weekend was probably more interesting that it should have been.
i came home after class on wed to see a concert that pi and i had won tickets for at pi's cousin's stag and doe this summer. it was a good show and we had fun. (i do'nt have classes on thurs). i was going to spend friday doing my readings for class since i certainly have enough of them. but as i was sitting down to do them fish came online and, since i hadn't seen her in 5 months and she just happened to be home from school on friday we made lunch plans...which evolved into late in the afternoon plans....which evolved into dinner plans....pi and i got home at about 1 am. as it was yom kippur and a friday we had a nice meal w/ fish's brothers and 3 or 4 friends that dropped in. pi met us at fish's house after he had finished work...and would have been there sooner had he not had an adventure - which i'll let him tell - on the way.
on sat we slept in since it was the only day we'd have to do so....and we'd gotten home at 1...and that was great. then we went to my parent's place for the 'first annual dodge rd street festival'. it was organized by a neighbour down the street who realized he didn't know anyone in the neighbourhood and invited everyone to his front yard for dinner. it was a lot of fun, but it took us a long time to get over there. dad, pi, and i left the house and made it as far as the end of the porch before i asked pi if he had his keys...which we decided it wasn't worth it to go back for. then we made it as far as the end of the drive way before dad realized that, although he had put the food in containers to take to the bbq, he had not removed said containers from the counter, so we went back for them. then, once outside, but before we locked the door this time, we figured we should go back for pi's keys. we made it to the corner before mom pulled up behind us and honked and we had to go back to get her. on the next attempt we made it to the steps in the middle of the lawn before she realized she needed money and we went back for some. the bbq was basically uneventful. one of the ladies had a fireman for an husband and he came by w/ a truck and let the kids climb all over it which was really nice.
we left early 'cause we were supposed to be going to the opera that night (lucia de lammermore). mom passed out the tickets and went upstairs to change. pi, sitting on the stairs mentioned that he thought mom had said that the show started at 8...but his ticket said 7.30.....so we rushed out of the house at just a bit after 7 and still managed to make it there 15 mins early. when the opera was over and got back to the car the door was wide open. turns out that dad had locked it and just simply forgot to bother shutting it...good thing the light was already burnt out or we'd have had no battery to start the car with! on our way out (via the church street exit so that bear could show us where her bf worked) we got behind this lady trying to put her receipt in the slot and get out of the parking lot. we were the only ones behind her when we arrived, but by the time the attendant got ticked enough to come and see what was going on there were 7 cars behind us. turns out she was supposed to have collected a ticket to put in the slot when she'd paid and the receipt wouldn't have fit anyway. so the attendent let her out since she'd paid and dad stuck his credit card in the slot. then the screen said that he had paid and taken his credit card, but he couldn't get it out of the slot. when he finally did claw it out of the slot i don't want to know how many ppl were behind us. the gate wouldn't open. the attendent, looking extremely pissed off came and took our receipt out of the machine at which pt the gate opened and we left. we got home at midnight.
on sunday we got up early so that i could do a demo and, after that, drove to pi's parent's place. i had my first souffle, which i liked and will have to learn to make, a nice sit and talk on the porch in lovely weather, a fairly long nap, and tomato soup and grilled cheese for dinner. we arrived in london at about 12...to discover that bell is more annoying than i thought possible!

hello all you ppl going back to school :D
i'm back and (no "i told you so"s ppl) it's good to be back
7 of us went out for ice cream at demetry's last night and it was, as per usual w/ that company, hillarious.
as per usual i also hate bell and they've screwed everything up.
they lost the order to transfer the line so i didn't have a phone when i got here and had to wait 2 days for it to get here, they hooked my internet up to a number that doesn't exist, billed me $30 for it, and told me i can't have internet for at min 3 more days now 'cause they can't hook up the net to a non-existant number (even though i have an active number now and it had been set up on a canceled number for over a week)...so after pi spending over half an hr on the phone today tryign to sort it out we gave up and drove to a bell store where we got the run around in person in much less time! very exciting *gak*
oh well
currently working on a very interesting hack job that gives me dial up....waiting.....waiting.....
classes start tomorrow and after that i go back to toronto until sun night 'cause of pi's brother's birthday.
back to london sun night
back to toronto wed night 'cause pi has to work on thurs
back to london thurs night after work 'cause i have class on fri
back to toronto fri night 'cause we have to be in toronto on sat and sun....sept is a bit of a right off as far as organization goes *sigh* some things never change

in montreal now...i got tired of being home alone and followed pi out on the train this week :)
it's really nice here. we have a nice view of the city from the hotel window.
the new office is really nice
i haven't had much of a chance to look around yet, but i had a good walk this morning and we're going out for a long one tonight.
of all the ridiculous pieces of murphy luck (i'm blaming pi for this one :P) taddy is in toronto this week while i'm here in montreal. *sigh*
pics will be on ftp as per usual

well, shakespeare in the park was a lot of fun. i always enjoy that. picnic beforehand and all.
ballet by the water was also a lot of fun and we'll have to go again next yr.
hopefully get to the opera next week...assuming i'm not in montreal.
pi's in montreal for another week :'(
on the up side i get him for an extra week in sept, but i still have to get through next week

since there are rather a lot of comments in the last post i think i should start again so you don't run out of space to talk in.
pi's in montreal :( *sniff* and i miss him...but i get him back on weekends, so it could be a lot worse.
i'm being kept busy by family and friends. bear had her wisdom teeth out on mon and has been making her way through our dvd collection ever since. i was home for dinner mon and tues, played with the kittens but forgot to take frank to mt and pm's house on wed, dimsum for pm's birthday yesterday (happy birthday again <:) ), p.b. took me to the sarah mcglachlen concert as well last night and that was fun 'cause i've never been to a concert like that before.
going over to pm and mt's again tonight until i pick up pi at the train station.
tomorrow we're going to get pi's hair cut, hopefully pick up the recycling bins, and go to a bbq at pm and mt's. sun we're going to shakespeare in the park and having a picnic beforehand.

we went to see pi's dad on sunday after we watched pm and mt play at church (nice arr of back air on g:) ) and he's looking better than i thought he would. he also lasted almost all of the visit w/o having to lie down.
pending pi's dad's health, our parents are meeting next sun for a bbq...which should be interesting
my parents are away this week so we've sort of invaded their house.
we got some movies out and watched them at their house, made dinner, moved in some furnature, did the laundry, etc. it's been fun :)
getting trained to sharpen knives later this week/beginning of next (depending on ups service) which should be interesting
that's about it
toodles

on the long weekend we went to london to pick up ann - she took the train here from ottawa last week and we all went to hewitt's last weekend for ice cream and to visit smitty. she was in london to visit the other half of the crew while she was here and we picked her up so she could take the train back from toronto. she missed the train and had to fwd her ticket 'cause we went to spiderman 2 and the ppl with the keys didn't remember we were on a schedule and wouldn't stop talking...and 'cause she had the time on the tikcet wrong and thought we had an extra hour. it didn't cost anything extra, so it's ok, but it was kind of stressful
sm2 was good. i wouldn't say it was fabulous, i liked the first one much better, but it was still good. they left it very widely and obviously open for a sequil at the end.
on sat pi's dad went into hospital 'cause of a mild heart attack...he's doing alright, but it was a bit of a scare.
the house is finally beginning to look like home. there are still PILES of dishes, but the sink appears to have stopped leaking (probably no thanks to the stupid plubmer) so we can start to get a handle on that (not so much we as he really, i hate dishes) tonight is set asside for networking. most of the boxes are empty and flat now and the rest of the stuff should be done by the end of the week
the office is sending pi to montreal for 2 weeks so we had to change the day of our 1 yr anniversary. at least it was a leap yr this yr so we've technically been going out for the full 365 days *sigh*
today i won a service call kit from my boss for helping out the office (35+tax etc) and a hardy slicer in a draw (125 +tax etc). there's a contest for a bhm block on thurs (157 +tax etc) which i'd REALLY like to win 'cause i kind of need one for all my knives during the year, but we'll see how that goes. also a contest for 50, 20, 10 in cash and 2 veg peelers on monday, but i don't think i'm in the running for that. nevertheless, i'm in a good mood today and on that note i'm off to do about 8 loads of laundry

mom's birthday on sunday, partying :)
going to hagersville on sat 'cause ann's in town and ice cream sounded like a good idea.

well, we started moving yesterday. got the computers, some boxes of books, the games, some clothes, some kitchen stuff, and a book shelf out of the house and somewhat organized. i still think the place is really cute. we need a lightbulb in the motion detector light at the bottom of the stairs though. that first stair is a doozy :)

i give you permission to hit andreas hard in the face (after he's signed your thesis) and say it was me.

well, recovering slowly from last week's shock
i'm still feeling strange though :S
don't really know what else to say....
nothing much has happened since last tues.
the funeral was nice. don't think i've seen so much clergy in st simon's at one time!
that was event 4 of 5. the last one's july 13. (9:00 call if you want to sing again pm...'borrow' robes from the church before you go)
there's 1 speaker allowed by the family and all robert would say was that it is going to be someone ted would have approved of.

only one more night after tonight in this house! no more mary, no more disgusting kitchen, no more litter box, no more LONG bus ride, no more away from campus, no more can't have guests, no more alone-ness, no more smell, no more bugs, no more coat hangers in the shower, no more flax seed everywhere....i think you get the point.
*boing*
going home tomorrow after bill's party!

You are 54% geek | You are a geek. Good for you! Considering the endless complexity of the universe, as well as whatever discipline you happen to be most interested in, you'll never be bored as long as you have a good book store, a net connection, and thousands of dollars worth of expensive equipment. Assuming you're a technical geek, you'll be able to afford it, too. If you're not a technical geek, you're geek enough to mate with a technical geek and thereby get the needed dough. Dating tip: Don't date a geek of the same persuasion as you. You'll constantly try to out-geek the other. |
looked at 3 places today
signed the lease on the second place we saw
it's walkable from school, across the rd from a great pizza place that's open really late and a variety store that rents movies.
the rent is a bit more expensive than i'm paying this year but it's way closer to campus, way more space than i have this year, pi can stay over w/o hastle, and the land lord is quite nice.....very VERY italian. his name is luigi and he has 5 kids. he bought us coffee (hot chocolate) and a doughnut at tim's while we were reading over the lease and then drove us both home.
somewhere b/w excited and scared about the new place and i'm hoping mom calls back tonight so that i can tell her i need the cash to finish the deal next tues.

so, detroit's rather a frightening city
went to the museum of african american history
aparently it's the biggest museum on 'the african experience' in the world...except possibly a new one in boston.
i was expecting a bias but not THAT much of a bias. the guide said that the cia had planted crack etc in the ghettos to kill off the expanding black population *sigh*
the museum itself was also less exciting than expected. it might be the largest, but we had seen everything there was to see in less than 3 hours. the explanations next to exhibits weren't really helpful (eg a laddar on a wall tag: a hand made laddar) and about 70% of the exhibits consisted of pictures. would have been more entertaing to read a book about it.
despite that i had a pretty good time and i'm glad i went.
smitty and aimee went too
we went to subway for lunch. they had bullet proof glass on the counter. also the counter's really high (chest level for me) and hard to see over. we found that farely amusing.

everyone must see 'love actually' very funny, very british
such a me day
went to liane's just to not be at my place...we made soupy goodness and tried to watch day of the jackal, but the film was only half there (grrrr) so we watched golden eye....it was good.
anyway, as to the me-ness of the day...liane and i were taking the bus to her place and a lady sitting near us was looking at her phone bill so i commented to liane that i still had to pay mine and the lady started talking to us about hers. it was over $500 this month 'cause her mother just died and she lives in quebec and they're having issues with the will...and she started crying....so we talked to her for the rest of the trip home. she told us about her abusive husband/ex-boyfriend who is 50, she's 33, her grandfather didn't want her to have any of the money 'cause she doesn't live w/ the rest of the family and she didn't go to school like they wanted her to, her spinal disease is giving her problems, and stuff like that.
i then spent the above noted quality time w/ liane at her and sarah's place and we took the bus back to campus at about 7.30.....guess who was on the bus and had lost her voice from yelling at her dog 'cause he was chewing up everything in the house....such a me day
